The Chapter About مَنْدُوبَاتِ الصَّلاَةِ (The Things Recommended) in the Prayer
وَيُسْـتَحَبُّ لِلْـمُكَلِّف (It is recommended for the one who has reached the age of puberty and is held responsible for his actions) أَنْ يَـتَنَـفَّلَ (that he prays supererogatory prayers) قَـبْلَ الظُّهْـرِ وَبَـعْدَهَـا (before Dhur and after it), وَقَـبْلَ الْـعَصْرِ (before ʿAsr) وَبَـعْدَ الْـمَغْرِبِ (and after Maghrib). يُسْـتَحَبُّ زِيَـادَةُ فِـي النَّفْلِ بَـعْدَ الْـمَغْرِبِ (Additional supererogatory prayers after maghrib are also recommended). وَهَـاـذَا كُـلُّهُ لَـيْسَ بِوَاجِـبٍ (None of these prayers are obligatory), إِنَّمَا هُـوَ عَـلَى طَـرِيقِ الْإسْـتِحْبَابِ (but they are recommended). وَكَـذَلِـكَ يُسْـتَحَبُّ الضُّحَى (Also, the forenoon prayer is recommended), وَالتَّرَاوِيح (along with Ṣalaatu-l-Tarāwīh, وَتَـحِيَّةُ الْـمَسْجِـدِ (the prayer of greeting the masjid), وَالشَّفْعُ (the Shafʿu) وَأَقَـلُّهُ رَكْـعَتَانِ (which consists of at least two rakʿah) وَالْـوِتْـرُ رَكْـعةٌ بَـعْدَهُ (and the Witr which consists of one rakʿah performed after the shafʿu). هُـوَ سُـنَّةٌ مُـؤَكَّدَةٌ (The Witr prayer is a required sunnaḩ). وَ الْـقِرَأَةُ (The recitation of Qur’an) فِـي الشَّفْعُ وَالْـوِتْـرِ (in both the Shafʿu and the Witr prayers) جَهْـرًا (is read aloud).
وَيَـقْرَأُ فِـي الشَّفْعِ (The worshipper reads in the Shafʿu prayer) فِـي رَكْـعَةِ الأُولَـى (in the first rakʿah) بِـأُمِّ الْـقُرآنِ (Sūratu-l-Faatiḥah) وَ (followed by) “ سَـبِحِ اسْـمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْـلى” (Sabbi-hisma rabbi-ka-l-aʿlaa) , وَفِـي الثَـانِـيَةِ (and in the second rakʿah [he reads]) بِـأُمِّ الْـقُرآنِ (Sūratu-l-Faatiḥah) وَ (followed by) “ قُـلْ يَـآ أَُّّىُّهَا الْـكَفِرونَ ” (Qul yaa ayyuhaa-l-kaafiruuna). وَ فِـي وَالْـوِتْـرِ (In the Witr prayer), بِـأُمِّ الْـقُرآنِ (Sūratu-l-Faatiḥah) وَ (followed by) قُـلْ هُـوَ اللّه أَحَـدٌ (Qul huwa-l-laahu Aḥad) وَ الْـمَُوْعَـوَّذَتيْـنِ (and the Muʿawdh-dhatayn).
وَ رَكْـعَتَا الْفَجْـرِ (the two rakʿahs of the Dawn Prayer) مِـنَ الرَّغَـائِـبِ (are among those things which are preferred), وَقِـيلَ (and it is said) مِـنَ السُّنَّةِ (that it is from among those this which are Sunnah). وَيُـقْرَأُ فِـيهِمَا سِـرًّا بِـأُمِّ الْـقُرآنِ فَقَطْ (Sūratu-l-Faatiḥah is read in both of them only silently ). وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ (Allah is the Best Knower).
